About Kerry ...

County Kerry, located in the southwest of Ireland is a rugged county and Ireland's highest mountain — Carrauntoohill 1,039m is located there. The county covers just over 1800 sq. miles. The southern parts of the county – the Ring of Kerry – and the Dingle Peninsula are more mountainous. The northern part of the county is lower lying. The main features of County Kerry include the long bay of the Kenmare River, and Dingle Bay.

Kerry offers a great diversity of scenery, culture and leisure activities. No matter from which direction the county of Kerry is approached, the great central spine of mountains draws the eye of the traveler.

Kerry is well endowed with places of interest, sporting and leisure activities, festivals and other special events. For people interested in sports there is a host of opportunities: cycling, equestrian, golfing and plenty of watersports activities such as: sailing, diving, windsurfing, angling etc.

The walkers amongst us will not be disappointed with Kerry with its numerous walking routes, great mountain ranges and national parks, for those culturally minded there are many outstanding items of interest to be seen, and there are a number of heritage and interpretative centres, open farms, museums, castles, houses and gardens open to the public.

Kerry has a number of Blue Flag Beaches which are listed below. Each Blue Flag beach meets a number of EU environmental and safety criteria, which together represent a high level of environmental quality. While using the beaches make sure to follow the advice of lifeguards where this service is provided. Read warning signs carefully. Failing that, seek local advice regarding the safety of individual beaches for swimming.
